On Thursday, November 21st, members of the Shinnecock Tribe presented to the 3rd grade students of Tuckahoe School in honor of Native American Heritage month. The presentation included the sharing of Native American folktales, beliefs, traditions, and food. Students were even lucky enough to sample homemade Fry Bread. The highlight of the afternoon, however, was the performance of a special Native American song.
Every year, Rogers Memorial Library Family Department librarians, Marci Byrne and Claudia Zack, and Tuckahoe Common School District library media specialist, Laurie Verdeschi, team up for a week-long public library card promotion at Tuckahoe School. This year, seventy-one new and replacement public library cards were placed into the eager hands of Tuckahoe students in prekindergarten through fifth grade! These students can now enjoy all the wonderful resources and programs available to them at Rogers Memorial Library!
